A Prayer for Inner Peace and Patience is a prayer to Christ Jesus, the Prince of Peace, asking for peace for a heavy, restless heart. It acknowledges short patience, quick frustration, and resentment, and asks for the grace to pause before reacting and to be filled with the gentle charity of His Sacred Heart. The prayer draws on Jesus’ words to the sea, “Peace, be still,” and asks for the grace to place tomorrow in His hands. It includes the intercession of Our Lady, St. Joseph, and St. Francis de Sales, and concludes with a petition, drawn from Philippians 4:7, that the peace of God may guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Lord Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace,
I come to You with a heavy heart.
I am restless and worn out.
You see the worries I carry,
the thoughts that kwwp returning,
and the burdens no one else knows about.
Lord, my patience is thin.
Frustration rises in me quickly,
and anger and resentment can take root.
Calm the storms of my temper.
Help me to pause before I speak or react.
Do not let harshness rule my heart.
Fill me with the gentle charity of Your Sacred Heart.
When my mind races and I am weary,
remind me that You are near.
Where there is fear, give me courage.
Where there is turmoil,
speak the words You spoke to the sea: “Peace, be still.”
Help me stop trying to control every outcome,
and give me the grace to place tomorrow in Your hands.
Holy Mary, Mother of Sorrows and Comfort of the Afflicted,
intercede for me before your Son,
that He may quiet the unrest in my soul.
St. Joseph, who trusted quietly and obeyed, pray for me.
St. Francis de Sales, gentle teacher of peace of heart, pray for me.
Lord, I trust in Your goodness.
Even when I cannot see the path ahead,
I believe You are with me,
guiding my steps and holding me close.
May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding,
guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus.
Amen.
