The Annunciation 

  1. In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. [Luke 1:26-27] 
  2. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”  [Luke 1:28]
  3. But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.  [Luke 1:29]
  4. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. [Luke 1:30]
  5. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. [Luke 1:31]
  6. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High and the Lord God will give him the throne of David, his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” [Luke 1:32-33]
  7. But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” [Luke 1:34]
  8. And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. [Luke 1:35]
  9. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God.” [Luke 1:36-37]
  10. Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her. [Luke 1:38]

The Visitation

  1. During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, [Luke 1:39]
  2. where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. [Luke 1:40]
  3. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, [Luke 1:41a]
  4. and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, [Luke 1:41b-42a]
  5. and blessed is the fruit of your womb. [Luke 42b]
  6. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? [Luke 1:43]
  7. For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. [Luke 1:44]
  8. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” [Luke 1:45]
  9. Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. [Luke 1:56]
  10. When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. [Luke 1:57]

The Nativity

  1. In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus* that the whole world should be enrolled. So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town. And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. [Luke 2:1, 3-5]
  2. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. [Luke 2:6-7a]
  3. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. [Luke 2:7b]
  4. Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. [Luke 2:8-9]
  5. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.”  [Luke 2:10-11]
  6. And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” [Luke 2:12,14]
  7. When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. [Luke 2:15-16]
  8. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. [Luke 2:17-18
  9. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. [Luke 2:19]
  10. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. [Luke 2:20]

The Presentation in the Temple

  1. When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. [Luke 2:21]
  2. When the days were completed for their purification, according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord [Luke 2:22]
  3.  and to offer the sacrifice of “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,” in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. [Luke 2:24]
  4. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him. [Luke 2:25]
  5. It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. [Luke 2:26]
  6. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” [Luke 2:27-32]
  7. The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; [Luke 2:33]
  8. and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” [Luke 2:34-35]
  9. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. [Luke 2:39]
  10. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. [Luke 2:40]

The Finding in the Temple

  1. Each year the parents of Jesus went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, [Luke 2:41]
  2. And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. [Luke 2:42]
  3. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. [Luke 2:43]
  4. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances but could not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.  [Luke 2:44-45]
  5. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, [Luke 2:46]
  6. and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. [Luke 2:47]
  7. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” [Luke 2:48]
  8. And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” [Luke 2:49]
  9. But they did not understand what he said to them. [Luke 2:50]
  10. ​He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus advanced [in] wisdom and age and favor before God and man. [Luke 2:51-52]

Baptism in the Jordan

  1. In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea [and] saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” [Matthew 3:1-2]
  2. It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: “A voice of one crying out in the desert, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.’” [Matthew 3:3]
  3. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. [Matthew 3:4]
  4. At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. [Matthew 3:5-6]
  5. Some Pharisees were also sent. They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?”  John answered them, “I baptize with water;* but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” [John 1:24-27]
  6. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. [John 1:29]
  7. John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?” [Matthew 3:14]
  8. Jesus said to him in reply, “Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him. [Matthew 3:15]
  9. After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened [for him], and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon him. [Matthew 3:16]
  10. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” [Matthew 3:17]

Wedding at Cana 

  1. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. [John 2:1]
  2. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. [John 2:2]
  3. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” [John 2:3]
  4. [And] Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.”  [John 2:4]
  5. His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”  [John 2:5]
  6. Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. [John 2:6-7]
  7. Then he told them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it. [John 2:8]
  8. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.” [John 2:9-10]
  9. Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him. [John 2:11]
  10. After this, he and his mother, [his] brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there only a few days. [John 2:12]

The Proclamation of the Kingdom

  1. When he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. [Matthew 4:12]
  2. As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. [Matthew 4:18]
  3. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. [Matthew 4:19-20]
  4. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him. [Matthew 4:21-22]
  5. He went around all of Galilee… teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people. [Matthew 4:23]
  6. His fame spread to all of Syria, and they brought to him all who were sick with various diseases and racked with pain, those who were possessed, lunatics, and paralytics, and he cured them. [Matthew 4:24]
  7. And great crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan followed him. [Matthew 4:25]
  8. When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them… [Matthew 5:1]
  9. … the crowds were astonished at his teaching, [Matthew 7:28b]
  10.  for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. [Matthew 7:29]

The Transfiguration

  1. After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. [Matthew 17:1]
  2. And he was transfigured before them; [Matthew 17:2a]
  3. His face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. [Matthew 17:2b]
  4. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. [Matthew 17:3]
  5. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” [Matthew 17:4]
  6. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” [Matthew 17:5]
  7. When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. [Matthew 17:6]
  8. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” [Matthew 17:7]
  9. And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. [Matthew 17:8]
  10. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” [Matthew 17:9]

The Institution of the Holy Eucharist

  1. On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?” [Matthew 26:17]
  2. He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The teacher says, “My appointed time draws near; in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.”’ The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered, and prepared the Passover.  [Matthew 26:18-19]
  3. When it was evening, he reclined at table with the Twelve. [Matthew 26:20]
  4. And while they were eating, he said, “Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” [Matthew 26:21]
  5. Deeply distressed at this, they began to say to him one after another, “Surely it is not I, Lord?” [Matthew 26:22]
  6. Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?” He answered, “You have said so.” [Matthew 26:25]
  7. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” [Matthew 26:26]
  8. Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.” [Matthew 26:27-28]
  9. I tell you, from now on I shall not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father.”  [Matthew 26:29]
  10. Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. [Matthew 26:30]
Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony in the Garden

  1. Then they came to a place named Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” [Mark 14:32]
  2. He took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be troubled and distressed. [Mark 14:33]
  3. Then he said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch.” [Mark 14:34]
  4. He advanced a little and fell to the ground and prayed that if it were possible the hour might pass by him; he said, “Abba, Father,* all things are possible to you. Take this cup away from me, but not what I will but what you will.”  [Mark 14:35-36]
  5. When he returned he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” [Mark 14:37-38]
  6. Withdrawing again, he prayed, saying the same thing. Then he returned once more and found them asleep, for they could not keep their eyes open and did not know what to answer him. [Mark 14:39-40]
  7. He returned a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is to be handed over to sinners. Get up, let us go. See, my betrayer is at hand.” [Mark 41-42]
  8. Then, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs who had come from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. [Mark 14:43]
  9. His betrayer had arranged a signal with them, saying, “The man I shall kiss is the one; arrest him and lead him away securely.” He came and immediately went over to him and said, “Rabbi.” And he kissed him. At this they laid hands on him and arrested him. [Mark 14:44-45]
  10. They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. [Mark 14:53]

The Scourging at the Pillar

  1. The chief priests and the entire Sanhedrin kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, but they found none. Many gave false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. [Mark 14:55-56]
  2. The high priest rose before the assembly and questioned Jesus, saying, “Have you no answer? What are these men testifying against you?” But he was silent and answered nothing. [Mark 14:60-61a]
  3. Again the high priest asked him and said to him, “Are you the Messiah, the son of the Blessed One?” Then Jesus answered, “I am; and ‘you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.’”  [Mark 14:61a-62]
  4. At that the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further need have we of witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” They all condemned him as deserving to die. [Mark 14:63-64]
  5. Some began to spit on him. They blindfolded him and struck him and said to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards greeted him with blows. [Mark 14:65]
  6. Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium. It was morning. And they themselves did not enter the praetorium, in order not to be defiled so that they could eat the Passover. So Pilate came out to them and said, “What charge do you bring [against] this man?” [John 18:28-29]
  7. They answered and said to him, “If he were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.” At this, Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” The Jews answered him, “We do not have the right to execute anyone,” in order that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled that he said indicating the kind of death he would die. [John 18:30-32]
  8. So Pilate went back into the praetorium and summoned Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this on your own or have others told you about me?” Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants [would] be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here.”[John 18:33-36]
  9. So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he again went out to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in him. But you have a custom that I release one prisoner to you at Passover.” [John 18:37-39a] 
  10. “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” They cried out again, “Not this one but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a revolutionary. Then Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged. [John 18:39b-40] [John 19:1]

The Crowning With Thorns

  1. And the soldiers wove a crown out of thorns and placed it on his head, and clothed him in a purple cloak, [John 19:2] 
  2. And they came to him and said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him repeatedly. [John 19:3]
  3. Once more Pilate went out and said to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no guilt in him.” So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple cloak. And he said to them, “Behold, the man!” [John 19:4-5]
  4. When the chief priests and the guards saw him they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him. I find no guilt in him.”The Jews answered,“We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.” [John 19:6-7]
  5. Now when Pilate heard this statement, he became even more afraid, and went back into the praetorium and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” Jesus did not answer him. So Pilate said to him, “Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you and I have power to crucify you?” [John 19:8-10]
  6. Jesus answered [him], “You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above. For this reason the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.” [John 19:11]
  7. Consequently, Pilate tried to release him; but the Jews cried out, “If you release him, you are not a Friend of Caesar. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.” [John 19:12]
  8. When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus out and seated him on the judge’s bench in the place called Stone Pavement, in Hebrew, Gabbatha. It was preparation day for Passover, and it was about noon. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your king!” [John 19:13-14]
  9. They cried out, “Take him away, take him away! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” [John 19:15]
  10. Pilate then handed Jesus over to them to be crucified. [John 19:16]

The Carrying of the Cross

  1. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak, dressed him in his own clothes, and led him out to crucify him. [Mark 15:20]
  2. As they led him away they took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country; [Luke 23:26a]
  3. And after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus. [Luke 23:26b]
  4. A large crowd of people followed Jesus [Luke 23:27a]
  5. Including many women who mourned and lamented him. [Luke 23:27b]
  6. Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; [Luke 23:28a]
  7. “Weep instead for yourselves and for your children,” [Luke 23:28b]
  8. “…for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’ [Luke 23:29]
  9. At that time people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall upon us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ …for if these things are done when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry?” [Luke 23:30-31]
  10. Now two others, both criminals, were led away with him to be executed. [Luke 23:32]

The Crucifixion of Jesus

  1. And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull), they gave Jesus wine to drink mixed with gall. But when he had tasted it, he refused to drink. [Matthew 27:33-34]
  2. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus in the middle. [John 19:18]
  3. Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, “Jesus the Nazorean, the King of the Jews.” Now many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that he said, ‘I am the King of the Jews.’” Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” [John 19:19-22]
  4. When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four shares, a share for each soldier. They also took his tunic, but the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top down. So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it will be,” in order that the passage of scripture might be fulfilled [that says]: “They divided my garments among them, and for my vesture they cast lots.” This is what the soldiers did. [John 19:23-24]
  5. The people stood by and watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said,“ He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Messiah of God.” Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.” [Luke 23:35-37]
  6. Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.” The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” [Luke 23:39-43]
  7. Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. [John 19-25-27]
  8. After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I thirst.” There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” [John 19:28-30a]
  9. It was now about noon and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. [Luke 23:44-45]
  10. ​Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this he breathed his last. [Luke 23:46]

The Resurrection

  1. When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over.[Matthew 27:57-58] 
  2. Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it [in] clean linen and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock. Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed. [Matthew 27:59–60]
  3. After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. [Matthew 28:1-2]
  4. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. [Matthew 28:3]
  5. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. [Matthew 28:4]
  6. Then the angel said to the women in reply, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” [Matthew 28:5-6]
  7. “Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ Behold, I have told you.” [Matthew 28:7]
  8. Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples. [Matthew 28:8]
  9. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. [Matthew 28:9]
  10. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” [Matthew 28:10]

The Ascension

  1. On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. [John 20:19-20]
  2. [Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” [John 20:21-23]
  3. Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” [John 20:24-25]
  4. Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” [John 20:26-27]
  5. Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” [John 20:28-29]
  6. The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.  [Matthew 28:16-17]
  7. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” [Matthew 28:18-20]
  8. When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. [Acts 1:9]
  9. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven. [Acts 1:10-11]
  10. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away. [Acts 1:12]

The Descent of the Holy Spirit

  1. When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. [Acts 2:1]
  2. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. [Acts 2:2]
  3. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. [Acts 2:3]
  4. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. [Acts 2:4]
  5. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. [Acts 2:5]
  6. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. [Acts 2:6]
  7. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language? [Acts 2:7–8]
  8. They were all astounded and bewildered, and said to one another, “What does this mean?” [Acts 2:12] 
  9. Peter [said] to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit. For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call.” [Acts 2:38-39]
  10. Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand persons were added that day. [Acts 2:41]

The Assumption

  1. And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; [Luke 1:46] 
  2. my spirit rejoices in God my savior. [Luke 1:47]
  3. For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. [Luke 1:48]

The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

  1. A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. [Revelation 12:1]
  2. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. [Revelation 12:2]
  3. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. [Revelation 12:5a]
  4. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. [Revelation 12:5b]
  5. The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God. [Revelation 12:6]
  6. When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. [Revelation 12:13]
  7. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken care of for a year, two years, and a half-year. [Revelation 12:14]
  8. The serpent, however, spewed a torrent of water out of his mouth after the woman to sweep her away with the current. [Revelation 12:15]
  9. But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth and swallowed the flood that the dragon spewed out of its mouth. [Revelation 12:16]
  10. Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus. [Revelation 12:17]

The Annunciation

  1. In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. (Lk 1:26-27)
  2.  And Gabriel came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” (Lk 1:28)
  3. But she was greatly troubled at the saying and considered in her mind what sort of  greeting this might be. (Lk 1:29)
  4. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” (Lk 1:30)
  5. “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.” (Lk 1:31)

The Visitation

  2. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the child leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. (Lk 1:41)

The Nativity
1. And while Mary and Joseph were in Bethlehem, the time came for her to be delivered. (Lk 2:6)
2. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes. (Lk 2:7)
3. And she laid him in a manger because there was no place for them in the inn. (Lk 2:7)
4. And in that region there were shepherds out in the field keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. (Lk 2:8-9)
5. And the angel said to them, “Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you news of a great joy which will come to all the people.” (Lk 2:10)
6. “For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Lk 2:11)
7. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!” (Lk 2:14)
8. And going into the house the Wise Men saw the child with Mary his mother. (Mt 2:1, 11)
9. And they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. (Mt 2:11)

The Presentation
1. And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary
and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. (Lk 2:22)
2. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. (Lk 2:25)
3. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. (Lk 2:26)
4. And inspired by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God. (Lk 2:27-28)
5. “Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word.” (Lk 2:29)
6. “For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples.” (Lk 2:30-31)
7. “A light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” (Lk 2:32)
8. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the fall and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against.” (Lk 2:34)
9. “And a sword will pierce through your own soul also, that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.” (Lk 2:35)
10. And when they performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. (Lk 2:39-40) 

The Finding in the Temple
1. Now Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when Jesus was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. (Lk 2:41-42)
2. And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it. (Lk 2:43)
3. And when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem seeking him. After three days, they found him in the temple. (Lk 2:45-46)
4. He was sitting among the teachers, listening to them, and asking them questions. (Lk 2:46)
5. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. (Lk 2:47)
6. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously.” (Lk 2:48)
7. And he said to them,“How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” (Lk 2:49)
8. And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them. (Lk 2:50)
9. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. (Lk 2:51)
10. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man. (Lk 2:52) 

Luminous Mysteries

Baptism in the Jordan
1. John the Baptist said,“I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” (Jn 1:23)
2. And John preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.” (Mk 1:7)
3. “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me . . . will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” (Mt 3:11)
4. John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn 1:29)
5. Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him. (Mt 3:13)
6. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” (Mt 3:14)
7. But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. (Mt 3:15)
8. And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. (Mt 3:16)
9. And behold, a voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Mt 3:17)
10. The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan. (Mk 1:12-13)

Wedding at Cana 
1. There was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. (Jn 2:1)
2. When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” (Jn 2:3)
3. And Jesus said to her, “O Woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” (Jn 2:4)
4. His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.” (Jn 2:5)
5. Now six stone jars were standing there, for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. (Jn 2:6)
6. Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them to the brim. (Jn 2:7)
7. He said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the steward of the feast.” (Jn 2:8)
8. When the steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from . . . the steward of the feast called the bridegroom. (Jn 2:9)
9. And the steward of the feast said to the bridegroom, “Every man serves the good wine first; and when men have drunk freely, then the poor wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” (Jn 2:10)
10. This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him. (Jn 2:11) 

The Proclamation of the Kingdom
1. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God (Mk 1:14)
2. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (Jn 1:4-5)
3. Jesus said, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel.” (Mk 1:15)
4. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them . . . and he was preaching the word to them. (Mk 2:2)
5. And when they could not get near Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay. (Mk 2:4)
6. “Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, pick up your pallet and walk?’” (Mk 2:9)
7. “But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins” he said to the paralytic. I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home.” (Mk 2:10-11)
8. And Jesus called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. (Mt 10:1)
9. These Twelve Jesus sent out charging them . . . to preach . . . “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (cf. Mt 10:5 & 7)
10. And when Jesus had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” (Jn 20:22-23) 

The Transfiguration
1. Now about eight days after these saying Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. (Lk 9:28)
2. And Jesus was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. (Mt 17:2)
3. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. (Mt 17:3)
4. Moses and Elijah . . . spoke of Jesus’ exodus that he was to accomplish in Jerusalem. (Lk 9:31)
5. And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” (Mt 17:4)
6. As Peter said this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. (Lk 9:34)
7. And a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” (Lk 9:35)
8. And suddenly looking around they no longer saw any one with them but Jesus only. (Mk 9:8)
9. And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of man should have risen from the dead. (Mk 9:9)
10. So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant. (Mk 9:10) 

The Institution of the Holy Eucharist
1. Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?” (Mt 26:17)
2. Jesus said, “Go into the city to a such a one, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” (Mt 26:18)
3. And when the hour came, he sat at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” (Lk 22:14-15)
4. And as they were eating, he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” (Mt 26:21)
5. Judas, who betrayed him, said, “Is it I, Master?” (Mt 26:25)
6. Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” (Mt 26:26)
7. And he took a chalice, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Mt 26:27-28)
8. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the chalice, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (1 Cor 11:26)
9. “I am the living bread which comes down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (Jn 6:51) 
10. “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him at the last day.” (Jn 6:54) 

Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony in the Garden
1. Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane. And he began to be sorrowful and troubled. (Mt 26:36-37)
2. Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” (Mt 26:38)
3. And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed. (Lk 22:41)
4. “Father, if you are willing, remove this chalice from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done.” (Lk 22:42)
5. And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. (Lk 22:43)
6. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly. (Lk 22:44)
7. And his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground. (Lk 22:44)
8. And he came back to his disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour?” (Mt 26:40)
9. “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” (Mt 26:41)

The Scourging at the Pillar
1. And as soon as it was morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him to Pilate. And Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” (Mk 15:1-2)
2. Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world.” (Jn 18:36)
3. Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.” (Jn 18:37)
4. Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no crime in him.” (Jn 18:38)
5. “I will therefore chastise him and release him.” Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him. (Lk 23:16, Jn 19:1)
6. He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (Is 53:3)
7. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. (Is 53:7)
8. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities. (Is 53:5)
9. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. Yet we esteemed him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. (Is 53:4)

The Crowning With Thorns
1. And the soldiers led him away [to the Praetorium]. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him. (Mk 15:16-17, Mt 27:28)
2. And plaiting a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and put a reed in his right hand. (Mt 27:29)
3. And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” (Mt 27:29)
4. And they spat upon him and took the reed and struck him on the head. (Mt 27:30)
5. Then Pilate took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this righteous man’s blood; see to it yourselves.” (Mt 27:24)
6. So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. (Jn 19:5)
7. Pilate said to the Jews, “Here is your King!” They cried out, “Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!” (Jn 19:15)
8. And Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.” (Mk15:14)
9. “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” (Jn 19:15)
10. So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas; and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. (Mk 15:15)

The Carrying of the Cross
1. “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself.” (Lk 9:23)
2. “And take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Lk 9:23)
3. So they took Jesus, and he went out, carrying his own cross. (Jn 19:17)
4. And as the led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. (Lk 23:26)

The Crucifixion of Jesus
1. And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him. (Lk 23:33)

3. One of the criminals who were crucified with him said, “Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingly power.” (Lk 23:39, 42; Mk 15:32)
4. “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Lk 23:43)
5. But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother … and the disciple whom he loved. (Jn 19:25-26)

The Resurrection

The Ascension

1st Glorious Mystery – The Resurrection

1. When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over.[Matthew 27:57-58] 

2. Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it [in] clean linen and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock. Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed. [Matthew 27:59–60]

3. After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. [Matthew 28:1-2]

4. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. [Matthew 28:3]

5. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. [Matthew 28:4]

2nd Glorious Mystery – The Ascension

1. On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. [John 20:19-20]

2. [Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” [John 20:21-23]

3. Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” [John 20:24-25]

4. Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” [John 20:26-27]

5. Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” [John 20:28-29]

6. The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.  [Matthew 28:16-17]

7. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” [Matthew 28:18-20]

8. When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. [Acts 1:9]

9. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven. [Acts 1:10-11]

10. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away. [Acts 1:12]

3rd Glorious Mystery – The Descent of the Holy Spirit

1. When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. [Acts 2:1]

2. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. [Acts 2:2]

3. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. [Acts 2:3]

4. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. [Acts 2:4]

5. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. [Acts 2:5]

6. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. [Acts 2:6]

7. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language? [Acts 2:7–8]

8. They were all astounded and bewildered, and said to one another, “What does this mean?” [Acts 2:12] 

9. Peter [said] to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit. For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call.” [Acts 2:38-39]

10. Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand persons were added that day. [Acts 2:41]

4th Glorious Mystery – The Assumption

1. And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; [Luke 1:46] 

2. “… my spirit rejoices in God my savior.” [Luke 1:47]

3. “For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.” [Luke 1:48]

4. “The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.” [Luke 1:49]

5th Glorious Mystery – The Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

1. A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. [Revelation 12:1]

2. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. [Revelation 12:2]

3. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. [Revelation 12:5a]

4. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. [Revelation 12:5b]

5. The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God. [Revelation 12:6]

6. When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. [Revelation 12:13]

7. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken care of for a year, two years, and a half-year. [Revelation 12:14]

8. The serpent, however, spewed a torrent of water out of his mouth after the woman to sweep her away with the current. [Revelation 12:15]

9. But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth and swallowed the flood that the dragon spewed out of its mouth. [Revelation 12:16]

1st Sorrowful Mystery – The Agony in the Garden

1. Then they came to a place named Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” [Mark 14:32]

    2. He took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be troubled and distressed. [Mark 14:33]

    3. Then he said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch.” [Mark 14:34]

    4. He advanced a little and fell to the ground and prayed that if it were possible the hour might pass by him; he said, “Abba, Father,* all things are possible to you. Take this cup away from me, but not what I will but what you will.”  [Mark 14:35-36]

    5. When he returned he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” [Mark 14:37-38]

    6. Withdrawing again, he prayed, saying the same thing. Then he returned once more and found them asleep, for they could not keep their eyes open and did not know what to answer him. [Mark 14:39-40]

    7. He returned a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is to be handed over to sinners. Get up, let us go. See, my betrayer is at hand.” [Mark 41-42]

    8. Then, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs who had come from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. [Mark 14:43]

    9. His betrayer had arranged a signal with them, saying, “The man I shall kiss is the one; arrest him and lead him away securely.” He came and immediately went over to him and said, “Rabbi.” And he kissed him. At this they laid hands on him and arrested him. [Mark 14:44-45]

    10. They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. [Mark 14:53]

    2nd Sorrowful Mystery – The Scourging at the Pillar

    1. The chief priests and the entire Sanhedrin kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, but they found none. Many gave false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. [Mark 14:55-56]

    2. The high priest rose before the assembly and questioned Jesus, saying, “Have you no answer? What are these men testifying against you?” But he was silent and answered nothing. [Mark 14:60-61a]

    3. Again the high priest asked him and said to him, “Are you the Messiah, the son of the Blessed One?” Then Jesus answered, “I am; and ‘you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.’”  [Mark 14:61a-62]

    4. At that the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further need have we of witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” They all condemned him as deserving to die. [Mark 14:63-64]

    5. Some began to spit on him. They blindfolded him and struck him and said to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards greeted him with blows. [Mark 14:65]

    6. Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium. It was morning. And they themselves did not enter the praetorium, in order not to be defiled so that they could eat the Passover. So Pilate came out to them and said, “What charge do you bring [against] this man?” [John 18:28-29]

    7. They answered and said to him, “If he were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.” At this, Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” The Jews answered him, “We do not have the right to execute anyone,” in order that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled that he said indicating the kind of death he would die. [John 18:30-32]

    8. So Pilate went back into the praetorium and summoned Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this on your own or have others told you about me?” Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants [would] be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here.”[John 18:33-36]

    9. So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he again went out to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in him. But you have a custom that I release one prisoner to you at Passover.” [John 18:37-39a] 

    10. “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” They cried out again, “Not this one but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a revolutionary. Then Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged. [John 18:39b-40] [John 19:1]

    3rd Sorrowful Mystery – The Crowning With Thorns

    1. And the soldiers wove a crown out of thorns and placed it on his head, and clothed him in a purple cloak, [John 19:2] 

    2. And they came to him and said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him repeatedly. [John 19:3]

    3. Once more Pilate went out and said to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no guilt in him.” So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple cloak. And he said to them, “Behold, the man!” [John 19:4-5]

    4. When the chief priests and the guards saw him they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him. I find no guilt in him.”The Jews answered,“We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.” [John 19:6-7]

    5. Now when Pilate heard this statement, he became even more afraid, and went back into the praetorium and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” Jesus did not answer him. So Pilate said to him, “Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you and I have power to crucify you?” [John 19:8-10]

    6. Jesus answered [him], “You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above. For this reason the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.” [John 19:11]

    7. Consequently, Pilate tried to release him; but the Jews cried out, “If you release him, you are not a Friend of Caesar. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.” [John 19:12]

    8. When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus out and seated him on the judge’s bench in the place called Stone Pavement, in Hebrew, Gabbatha. It was preparation day for Passover, and it was about noon. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your king!” [John 19:13-14]

    9. They cried out, “Take him away, take him away! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” [John 19:15]

    10. Pilate then handed Jesus over to them to be crucified. [John 19:16]

    4th Sorrowful Mystery – The Carrying of the Cross

    1. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak, dressed him in his own clothes, and led him out to crucify him. [Mark 15:20]

    2. As they led him away they took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country; [Luke 23:26a]

    3. And after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus. [Luke 23:26b]

    4. A large crowd of people followed Jesus [Luke 23:27a]

    5. Including many women who mourned and lamented him. [Luke 23:27b]

    6. Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; [Luke 23:28a]

    7. “Weep instead for yourselves and for your children,” [Luke 23:28b]

    8. “…for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’ [Luke 23:29]

    9. At that time people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall upon us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ …for if these things are done when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry?” [Luke 23:30-31]

    10. Now two others, both criminals, were led away with him to be executed. [Luke 23:32]

    5th Sorrowful Mystery – The Crucifixion of Jesus

    1. And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull), they gave Jesus wine to drink mixed with gall. But when he had tasted it, he refused to drink. [Matthew 27:33-34]

    2. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus in the middle. [John 19:18]

    3. Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, “Jesus the Nazorean, the King of the Jews.” Now many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that he said, ‘I am the King of the Jews.’” Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” [John 19:19-22]

    4. When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four shares, a share for each soldier. They also took his tunic, but the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top down. So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it will be,” in order that the passage of scripture might be fulfilled [that says]: “They divided my garments among them, and for my vesture they cast lots.” This is what the soldiers did. [John 19:23-24]

    5. The people stood by and watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said,“ He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Messiah of God.” Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.” [Luke 23:35-37]

    6. Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.” The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” [Luke 23:39-43]

    7. Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. [John 19-25-27]

    8. After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I thirst.” There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” [John 19:28-30a]

    9. It was now about noon and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. [Luke 23:44-45]

    ​10. Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this he breathed his last. [Luke 23:46]

    1st Luminous Mystery – Baptism in the Jordan

    1. In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea [and] saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” [Matthew 3:1-2]

    2. It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: “A voice of one crying out in the desert, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.’” [Matthew 3:3]

    3. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. [Matthew 3:4]

    4. At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. [Matthew 3:5-6]

    5. Some Pharisees were also sent. They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?”  John answered them, “I baptize with water;* but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” [John 1:24-27]

    6. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. [John 1:29]

    7. John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?” [Matthew 3:14]

    8. Jesus said to him in reply, “Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him. [Matthew 3:15]

    9. After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened [for him], and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon him. [Matthew 3:16]

    2nd Luminous Mystery – Wedding at Cana

    1. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. [John 2:1]

    2. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. [John 2:2]

    3. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” [John 2:3]

    4. [And] Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.”  [John 2:4]

    5. His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”  [John 2:5]

    6. Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. [John 2:6-7]

    7. Then he told them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.” So they took it. [John 2:8]

    8. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.” [John 2:9-10]

    9. Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him. [John 2:11]

    10. After this, he and his mother, [his] brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there only a few days. [John 2:12]

    3rd Luminous Mystery – The Proclamation of the Kingdom

    1. When he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. [Matthew 4:12]

    2. As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. [Matthew 4:18]

    3. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. [Matthew 4:19-20]

    4. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him. [Matthew 4:21-22]

    5. He went around all of Galilee… teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people. [Matthew 4:23]

    6. His fame spread to all of Syria, and they brought to him all who were sick with various diseases and racked with pain, those who were possessed, lunatics, and paralytics, and he cured them. [Matthew 4:24]

    7. And great crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan followed him. [Matthew 4:25]

    8. When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them… [Matthew 5:1]

    9. … the crowds were astonished at his teaching, [Matthew 7:28b]

    10. … for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes. [Matthew 7:29]

    4th Luminous Mystery – The Transfiguration

    1. After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. [Matthew 17:1]

    2. And he was transfigured before them; [Matthew 17:2a]

    3. His face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. [Matthew 17:2b]

    4. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. [Matthew 17:3]

    5. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” [Matthew 17:4]

    6. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” [Matthew 17:5]

    7. When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. [Matthew 17:6]

    8. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” [Matthew 17:7]

    9. And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. [Matthew 17:8]

    10. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” [Matthew 17:9]

    5th Luminous Mystery – The Institution of the Holy Eucharist

    1. On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?” [Matthew 26:17]

    2. He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The teacher says, “My appointed time draws near; in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.”’ The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered, and prepared the Passover.  [Matthew 26:18-19]

    3. When it was evening, he reclined at table with the Twelve. [Matthew 26:20]

    4. And while they were eating, he said, “Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” [Matthew 26:21]

    5. Deeply distressed at this, they began to say to him one after another, “Surely it is not I, Lord?” [Matthew 26:22]

    6. Then Judas, his betrayer, said in reply, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?” He answered, “You have said so.” [Matthew 26:25]

    7. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” [Matthew 26:26]

    8. Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.” [Matthew 26:27-28]

    9. I tell you, from now on I shall not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father.”  [Matthew 26:29]

    10. Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. [Matthew 26:30]

    1st Joyful Mystery – The Annunciation

    2. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”  [Luke 1:28]

    2nd Joyful Mystery – The Visitation

    1. During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, [Luke 1:39]

    2. … where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. [Luke 1:40]

    3. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, [Luke 1:41a]

    4. … and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women,” [Luke 1:41b-42a]

    5. “… and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” [Luke 42b]

    6. “And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” [Luke 1:43]

    3rd Joyful Mystery – The Nativity

    1. In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town. And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. [Luke 2:1, 3-5]

    2. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. [Luke 2:6-7a]

    3. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. [Luke 2:7b]

    4. Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. [Luke 2:8-9]

    5. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.”  [Luke 2:10-11]

    6. And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” [Luke 2:12,14]

    7. When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. [Luke 2:15-16]

    8. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. [Luke 2:17-18]

    9. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. [Luke 2:19]

    10. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. [Luke 2:20]

    4th Joyful Mystery – The Presentation in the Temple

    1. When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. [Luke 2:21]

    2. When the days were completed for their purification, according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord [Luke 2:22]

    3. … and to offer the sacrifice of “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,” in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. [Luke 2:24]

    4. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him. [Luke 2:25]

    5. It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. [Luke 2:26]

    6. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” [Luke 2:27-32]

    7. The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; [Luke 2:33]

    8. … and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” [Luke 2:34-35]

    9. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. [Luke 2:39]

    10. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. [Luke 2:40]

    5th Joyful Mystery – The Finding in the Temple

    1. Each year the parents of Jesus went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, [Luke 2:41]

    2. And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. [Luke 2:42]

    3. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. [Luke 2:43]

    4. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances but could not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.  [Luke 2:44-45]

    5. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, [Luke 2:46]

    6. … and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. [Luke 2:47]

    7. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” [Luke 2:48]

    8. And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” [Luke 2:49]

    9. But they did not understand what he said to them. [Luke 2:50]

    10. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus advanced [in] wisdom and age and favor before God and man. [Luke 2:51-52]

    The Agony in the Garden

    1. Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane. And he began to be
      sorrowful and troubled. (Mt 26:36-37)

    3. And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed. (Lk 22:41)

    The Scourging at the Pillar

    The Crowning With Thorns

    1. And the soldiers led him away [to the Praetorium]. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him. (Mk 15:16-17, Mt 27:28)
    2. And plaiting a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and put a reed in his righthand. (Mt 27:29)
    3. And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” (Mt 27:29)

    5. Then Pilate took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am

    The Carrying of the Cross

    1. “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself.” (Lk 9:23)
    2. “And take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Lk 9:23)
    3. So they took Jesus, and he went out, carrying his own cross. (Jn 19:17)
    4. And as the led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. (Lk 23:26)
    5. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me.” (Mt 11:29)
    6. “For I am gentle and lowly in heart.” (Mt 11:29)

    The Crucifixion of Jesus

    1. And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him. (Lk 23:33)

    3. One of the criminals who were crucified with him said, “Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingly power.” (Lk 23:39, 42; Mk 15:32)
    4. “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Lk 23:43)
    5. But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother … and the disciple whom he
      loved. (Jn 19:25-26)
    6. Jesus said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” (Jn 19:26-27)
    7. And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. (Jn 19:27)
    8. And there was darkness over the whole land. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook. (Lk 23:44; Mt 27:51)
    9. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said “Father, into your hands I commit my
