Consecration of the United States to Mary

Most Holy Trinity — our Father in Heaven, who chose Mary as the fairest of Your daughters; Holy Spirit, who chose Mary as Your spouse; God of Son, who chose Mary as Your mother — we adore Your Majesty and acknowledge Your supreme, eternal dominion and authority.

Most Holy Trinity, we place the United States of America into the hands
of Mary Immaculate in order that she may present the country to You. Through her we wish to thank You for the great resources of this land and for the freedom which has been its heritage.

Through the intercession of Mary, have mercy on the Catholic Church in America. Grant us peace. Have mercy on our president and on all the officers of our government.

Grant us a fruitful economy, born of justice and labor. Protect the family life of the nation. Guard the precious gift of many religious vocations. Through the intercession of Mary, our Mother, have mercy on the sick, the tempted, sinners, and all who are in need.

Mary, Immaculate Virgin, our Mother, Patroness of our land, we praise and honor you, and give ourselves to you. Protect us from every harm. Pray for us that, acting always according to your will and the will of your Divine Son, we may live and die pleasing to God. Amen.

Consecration to the Holy Spirit

Before the multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body, to You, eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the power of Your love. You are the strength and light of my soul, in You I live and move and have my being.

I desire never to grieve You by infidelity to Your grace, and I pray wholeheartedly to be preserved from the slightest sin against You. Make me faithful in my every thought, and grant that I may always listen to Your voice, watch for Your light, and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and beg You, in Your compassion, to watch over me in my weakness.

Holding the pierced feet of Jesus, gazing at His five wounds, trusting to His Precious Blood, and adoring His open side and stricken Heart, I implore You, adorable Spirit, so to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You.

Grant me the grace, O Holy Spirit of the Father and the Son,
to say to You always and everywhere: “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.” Amen.

Prayer Video –A Prayer for the Consecration of America

Immaculate Mary, most Holy Mother of God and of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we the people of the United States of America at this historic moment stand before you in a humbled condition of love, loyalty, affection, and thankfulness. To your Immaculate Heart we recommit and dedicate ourselves throughout the entire American nation. To your Son Jesus Christ we pledge to serve His teaching, His church, and to work for His kingdom on earth. O Mary, to you do we flee for protection. Surround the American family with your maternal care; enfold us in your arms. Give to this American land, built on the blood and tears of so many faithful forebears, a peaceful and praiseworthy existence in truth, love, justice, and freedom.

O Mary, we submit to you as the Patroness of our beloved country. O Mary, Help of Christians, enfold the Holy Father and the Catholic Church within your protective cloak; be our shield in the days ahead. Give to the Church true holiness and freedom. Obtain for our leaders holy zeal, the ability to face the truth, and the courage to correct all abuses. Stop the flood of atheism, greed, heresy, impurity, lukewarmness, materialism, and selfishness that threaten our nation. Show to those who have strayed from the Church the way to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Mother of God, accept our personal consecration to you and, through you, bind us forever to the Holy Trinity. Gather us all into your Immaculate Heart and unite us forever with Jesus.

O Mary, we love you.

Amen.

Prayer Video –Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O Adorable Heart of Jesus, the tenderest, the most amiable, the most generous of all hearts! Penetrated with gratitude at the sight of Thy benefits, I come to consecrate myself wholly and unreservedly to Thee! I wish to devote all my energies to propagating Thy worship and winning, if possible, all hearts to Thee. Receive my heart this day, O Jesus. Or rather take it, change it, purify it, to render it worthy of Thee; make it humble, gentle, patient, faithful, and generous like Thine, by inflaming it with the fire of Thy love. Hide it in Thy Divine Heart with all hearts that love Thee and are consecrated to Thee; never permit me to take my heart from Thee again. Let me rather die than grieve Thy Adorable Heart. Thou know O Heart of Jesus, that the desire of my heart is to love Thee always, to be wholly Thine in life and in death, in time and in eternity.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee.

Consecration to the Sacred Heart (by Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque)

The Consecration to the Sacred Heart is a prayer of total self-offering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, composed by Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque — the 17th-century French mystic to whom Our Lord revealed the devotion to His Sacred Heart. In this beautiful prayer, the faithful consecrate their person, their actions, their trials, and their sufferings entirely to Jesus, placing all their confidence in His infinite goodness and seeking refuge in His merciful Heart, especially at the hour of death.

This prayer can be found in our book, Catholic Prayers & Devotions: A Treasury of Grace for the Faithful (Volume I). Available on Amazon in e-book, paperback, and hardcover.

Consecration to the Sacred Heart

Prayer Video – Consecration to the Sacred Heart

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Thee I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring and glorifying Thee. This is my irrevocable will, to belong entirely to Thee, and to do all for Thy love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Thee.

I take Thee, O Sacred Heart, for the sole object of my love, the protection of my life, the pledge of my salvation, the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, the reparation for all the defects of my life, and my secure refuge at the hour of my death. Be Thou, O Most Merciful Heart, my justification before God Thy Father, and screen me from His anger which I have so justly merited. I fear all from my own weakness and malice, but placing my entire confidence in Thee, O Heart of Love, I hope all from Thine infinite Goodness. Annihilate in me all that can displease or resist Thee. Imprint Thy pure love so deeply in my heart that I may never forget Thee or be separated from Thee.

I beseech Thee, through Thine infinite Goodness, grant that my name be engraved upon Thy Heart, for in this I place all my happiness and all my glory, to live and to die as one of Thy devoted servants.  Amen.

About This Devotion

What Is Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary?

To consecrate oneself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is to entrust one’s entire life — body, soul, and all that we have — to Our Lady’s maternal care and protection. It is a formal act of devotion in which we recognize Mary as our spiritual Mother and place ourselves under her guidance, asking her to lead us ever closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.

This consecration is not worship of Mary, but rather an entrustment to her. Just as Jesus, from the Cross, gave Mary to us as our Mother when He said to St. John, “Behold, your mother” (John 19:27), we respond by giving ourselves to her as her children. Through this act, we ask Mary to form us, protect us, and present our prayers and sacrifices to God.

The Connection to Fatima

The devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary received powerful emphasis through the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917. When Our Lady appeared to the three shepherd children — Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta — in Fatima, Portugal, she revealed her Immaculate Heart and asked that devotion to it be spread throughout the world.

Our Lady told the children: “Jesus wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. To whoever embraces this devotion, I promise salvation; these souls shall be dear to God, as flowers placed by me to adorn His throne.”

She specifically requested that the Holy Father, in union with all the bishops of the world, consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart, and that the faithful practice the First Saturday devotion in reparation for sins committed against her Immaculate Heart.

Renewing Your Consecration

Once made, your consecration should be renewed regularly. Many faithful Catholics renew their consecration:

  • Daily, using a shorter prayer of renewal
  • Monthly, particularly on First Saturdays
  • Annually, on the anniversary of their consecration or on a Marian feast day

A simple daily renewal might be as brief as: “I am all yours, my Queen and my Mother, and all that I have is yours.”

Prayer Video –Consecration to the Holy Family

O Lord Jesus,
you lived in the home of Mary and Joseph in Nazareth.
There you grew in age, wisdom and grace
as you prepared to fulfill your mission
as our Redeemer.
We entrust our family to you.

O Blessed Mary,
you are the Mother of our Savior.
At Nazareth you cared for Jesus
and nurtured him in the peace and joy of your home.
We entrust our family to you.

O Saint Joseph,
you provided a secure and loving home for Jesus and Mary,
and gave us a model of fatherhood
while showing us the dignity of work.
We entrust our family to you.

Holy Family, we consecrate ourselves and our family to you.
May we be completely united
in a love that is lasting, faithful
and open to the gift of new life.
Help us to grow in virtue,
to forgive one another from our hearts,
and to live in peace all our days.
Keep us strong in faith, persevering in prayer,
diligent in our work, and generous toward those in need.
May our home, O Holy Family,
truly become a domestic church
where we reflect your example in our daily life. Amen.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
