A Prayer for Vocations is a heartfelt Catholic prayer invoking the Holy Spirit to illuminate the minds and hearts of the young as they discern the path God has prepared for them. Calling upon the Holy Spirit’s gifts of knowledge, understanding, and counsel, this prayer asks Him to guide, strengthen, and protect all those discerning a vocation to the priesthood, religious life, marriage, or the single life lived in service to God. It concludes with a prayer to Our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph for their powerful intercession on behalf of all who seek to know and embrace God’s holy will for their lives.
A Prayer for Vocations
O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, pour forth Your gifts of knowledge, understanding, and counsel upon young and earnest souls, that they may know the vocation God has written upon their hearts.
Illuminate their minds that they may clearly see the path He has prepared for them, and kindle in their hearts the courage to answer His call without hesitation or fear.
Guide them along the path of Your holy will, and strengthen their resolutions when doubt assails them. Shield their purity, conform their minds to the mind of Christ, and draw their hearts ever closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Lead them, O gentle Spirit, to the Lord’s vineyard, with humble hearts and willing hands.
May every soul called to the priesthood, to the religious life, to the sacred vocation of marriage, or to the single life lived in service to God, answer with willingness and trust. May no one who hears Your call ever turn away in fear, yield to the distractions of the world, or heed the voice of the enemy.
Hear our prayer, O Holy Spirit. Call them. Form them. Send them forth. Amen.
O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church and of all of God’s people, intercede before your Son for all those discerning their vocation. You, who said yes without reservation, obtain for them that same willing and trusting heart. Pray that they may hear God’s call clearly, embrace it wholly, and persevere faithfully all the days of their lives. Amen.
