The “Novena for the Protection of the Unborn” is a heartfelt cry to heaven for the most vulnerable among us. This prayer gathers us before the throne of God to plead for unborn children in danger, for mothers trembling with fear, for fathers who need courage, and for a world that has forgotten the sacredness of life. It is a prayer of hope for those in crisis, of mercy for those carrying deep wounds, and of trust in a God who hears the cries of His people.
Novena for the Protection of the Unborn
O God, Creator of all life, we come before You with humble hearts, asking for Your divine protection over all unborn children. You who knit us together in our mothers’ wombs and knew us before we were formed, look with mercy upon the most vulnerable among us. Grant strength to expectant mothers, wisdom to those who guide them, and conversion to all who threaten innocent life.
Heavenly Father, You created mankind in Your own image and likeness, and from the first moment of conception, every human being bears Your divine imprint. We pray that the sacred dignity of every child in the womb may be recognized and defended. Let no one hinder these smallest of Your children from coming in the world You have prepared for them.
We lift up all mothers who are afraid, confused, or in despair—those facing poverty, abandonment, illness, or impossible circumstances. You promised to give rest to all who are weary and burdened. Be close to every woman who feels crushed by her circumstances. Surround her with Your love, provide for all her needs, and give her the courage to welcome her child. For those carrying children conceived in violence, grant supernatural grace, for Your power is made perfect in weakness.
We pray for fathers who are called to embrace their responsibility to provide for their children. Raise up men who, like St. Joseph, will safeguard the lives entrusted to their care. Strengthen those who are uncertain and convert those who would forsake their children or pressure mothers against choosing life. Inspire families, friends, and communities to surround both mother and child with practical help and support, that no woman may feel alone.
We pray for the softening of all hearts that have been hardened to the value of human life. Draw to repentance those who work in places where pregnancies are ended. Give politicians, judges, and lawmakers wisdom to enact and uphold just laws, and courage to defend the innocent, even when it is unpopular.
Bless pro-life physicians, nurses, midwives, and counselors. Guard their consciences and multiply their numbers. Provide pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes, and adoption agencies with funding, volunteers, and resources. Let their doors be open to all who need help, and make all caregivers instruments of Your love.
We pray for all who carry wounds related to the loss of a child—mothers, fathers, grandparents, and all who have been affected. You came to bind up the brokenhearted and proclaim freedom for the captives. Release from darkness all who are imprisoned by guilt, shame, and grief. Lead them to Your Sacrament of Reconciliation, bring healing to their hearts, and restore their peace.
We entrust to Your tender mercy all children whose lives were cut short; receive them into Your eternal kingdom, where every tear is wiped away.
Lord Jesus, You said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them.” We consecrate to Your Most Sacred Heart all children in the womb and their mothers. Shelter them under Your mantle, guard them with Your angels, and bring them safely through the dangers of pregnancy and birth. May all people choose life, so that they and their children may live.
Holy Spirit, who overshadowed the Virgin Mary at the Annunciation, overshadow now all unborn children with Your protecting grace. Amen.
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Unborn, pray for us.
St. Joseph, Protector of Families, pray for us.
All holy saints and angels, pray for us.
May Almighty God bless us and keep us faithful in defending life. Amen.
