A Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe for a special request or intention. In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to a St Juan Diego, a farmer, in Tepeyak (current day Mexico City) five times. Her apparitions led to the conversion of the people of the area. Today, Our Lady of Guadalupe is considered the patroness of the Americas. She is a prominent figure in Mexican culture and is highly respected especially among Mexican Catholics.

O Our Lady of Guadalupe, mystical rose, make intercession for Holy Church, protect the Sovereign Pontiff, help all those who invoke thee in their necessities, and since thou art the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from thy most holy Son the grace of keeping our faith, sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life, burning charity and the precious gift of final perseverance.

Dearest Lady, fruitful Mother of Holiness, teach me Your ways of gentleness and strength. Hear my prayer, offered with deep felt confidence to beg this favor…

O Mary, conceived without sin, I come to your throne of grace to share the fervent devotion of your faithful Mexican children who call to Thee under the glorious title “Guadalupe” – the Virgin who crushed the serpent.

Queen of Martyrs, whose Immaculate Heart was pierced by seven swords of grief, help me to walk valiantly amid the sharp thorns strewn across my path. Invoke the Holy Spirit of Wisdom to fortify my will to frequent the Sacraments so that, thus enlightened and strengthened, I may prefer God to all creatures and shun every occasion of sin.

Help me, as a living branch of the Vine that is Jesus Christ, to exemplify His divine charity always seeking the good of others. 

Queen of Apostles, aid me to win souls for the Sacred Heart of my Savior. Keep my apostolate fearless, dynamic, and articulate, to proclaim the loving solitude of Our Father in Heaven so that the wayward may heed His pleading and obtain pardon, through the merits of Your Merciful Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe is a petition prayer that is typically prayed during the nine consecutive days leading up to the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12; although it can be prayed anytime of the year.

Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared miraculously on the cloak of St. Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531, leaving her sacred image as a pregnant indigenous woman that became instrumental in the evangelization of Latin America. Today, she is a beloved symbol of Catholicism in Mexico and beyond, representing unity, compassion, comfort, and liberation. Her feast day on December 12th, marking the anniversary of her appearance, draws millions of pilgrims to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Devotion to her involves veneration of the miraculous tilma relic, recitation of the Guadalupe novena, spreading the story of her apparition, and building faith in her powerful intercession. She is seen as the Mother of all in the Americas who leads souls to Christ.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, according to thy message in Mexico I venerate thee as the Virgin Mother of the true God for whom we live, the Creator of all the world, Maker of Heaven and earth. In spirit I kneel before thy most holy image which thou didst miraculously imprint upon the cloak of the humble and obedient Indian Juan Diego, and with the faith of the countless numbers of pilgrims who visit thy shrine, I beg thee for this favor:

Remember, O Immaculate Virgin, the words thou hast spoken to thy devout and humble, yet hesitant client: “I am a merciful mother to thee and to all thy people who love me and trust in me and invoke my help. I listen to their lamentations and solace all their sorrows and sufferings.” I beg thee to be a merciful mother to me, because I sincerely love thee and trust in thee and invoke thy help. I entreat thee, our Lady of Guadalupe, to grant my request, if this should be the will of God, in order that I may bear witness to thy love, thy compassion, thy help and protection. Do not forsake me in my needs.

Recite the Hail Mary prayer three times, saying the following after each Hail Mary:
